Chris Thornborrow

Performances

Based in Toronto, Chris Thornborrow is a composer of chamber music, orchestral works, film-score, and opera. His music has been described as “complex and clear, with subtle playfulness” (Ludwig-Van Toronto), and “a rumbly evocative pleasure” (IndieWire). He received multiple SOCAN awards for audio/visual composers, the Toronto Emerging Composer Award honourable mention, and the Karen Kieser Prize in Canadian Music. He is the CoFounder of the Toy Piano Composers, and has been commissioned by numerous organizations including Esprit Orchestra, The Bicycle Opera Project, and ArrayEnsemble. A leading arts educator, he directs a number of programs for children with the Canadian Opera Company, and facilitates numerous composition workshops with the Toronto District School Board.
