2021 Season Announcement

Emergency Transition Fund

Support Tapestry Opera’s Emergency Transition Fund and DOUBLE your gift!

The coronavirus pandemic is threatening the survival of Tapestry Opera. While many companies are announcing seasons with public performances, health professionals are projecting that large gatherings will not be safe until well into 2021. To cope with the loss of ticket revenue and individual and organizational support for productions, Tapestry must do what it does best, and innovate to survive.

From March through June 2020, Tapestry Opera has committed $100,000 to engage artists and transition our artistic practice to digital platforms. We have already raised 70% of our target, and Tapestry’s Board Chair, Brian Dawson, has generously committed to matching up to half of the remaining goal, leaving only $15,000 to go!

But we cannot do this alone. Donate now to support this innovative season.

If you are in a position to do so, please consider a gift towards our Emergency Transition Fund. Your donation will have twice the impact, and you will be helping to ensure the livelihoods of the vibrant network of artists who bring us all such joy.

With 100% of new donations going directly to Tapestry artists and artistic projects, your support is essential to ensuring Tapestry’s survival, and the financial welfare of our artists.

What Tapestry Opera’s Emergency Transition Fund supports

Your generous donation supports:

  • Pivoting Rocking Horse Winner rehearsals to digital and hiring more artists for new works.
  • Guaranteeing work for these artists, many of whom are living with few prospects for employment
  • Investing in new technology and methods to bring innovative opera to you
  • Fully equipping the Ernest Balmer Studio for live-streaming, recording and releasing high-quality recorded albums of great Tapestry works.
  • Commissioning new works designed for online broadcast

“Since social distancing began, we have all relied more heavily on the music that lifts our moods and the stories that sweep us away. It has never been more clear that art is essential to our lived experience, and we cannot ignore our working artists who are facing a tenuous and unstable future. Your support towards our Emergency Transition Fund is essential to supporting these artists, keeping Tapestry’s lights on, and lighting the way through the next year.”

– General and Artistic Director Michael Mori

Your help is urgently needed

We are relying on our friends during this difficult time. We at Tapestry Opera and the artists we employ cannot get through this without you. No gift is too small, when many rally together! Even a modest contribution will help preserve the art form we cherish!
