Tapestry Opera is seeking a talented, savvy communicator to join our team

Tapestry Opera is an award-winning independent opera producer known for innovative and progressive practices in developing and producing opera. Our team consists of seven full-time staff. We value collaboration and rigour in developing and producing new works as much as we do collaboration in our administrative work. The Marketing and Communications Manager will develop and execute the communications, marketing, and promotions of Tapestry Opera’s brand, seasons, and individual shows. We are looking for both a strategic thinker and a hands-on executor who is ready to complement the growth of the brand and become a leader in our innovative, dynamic organization. We’re a highly collaborative team, and this role would work closely with the Artistic & General Director, Executive Director, Manager of Sponsorships and Philanthropy and Artistic Producer to ensure consistency of tone and message across platforms.

What you will do

This is a comprehensive but not exhaustive list, in which there is room for growth in particular areas of interest to the applicant. As with any small organization, additional duties as required, within reason and subject to discussion.

Communications and Marketing

  • Develop marketing and communications strategies for productions and events, our national programs including our Women in Musical Leadership conducting program, and other outputs including album releases and online releases
  • Develop and execute press and PR campaigns for Tapestry’s projects
  • With a keen eye for design, ensure all communications further strategic goals, adhere to brand guidelines and accessibility guidelines, and represent Tapestry in tone and content
  • Ensure a unified image and approach to written communications is used for all Tapestry external correspondence: (emails, press releases, information packages, etc.), in collaboration with the Executive Director, and Artistic Director.
  • Develop and oversee the Communications Calendar, including working closely with the Manager of Sponsorships and Philanthropy on integrated Individual Giving campaigns alongside other marketing and communications campaigns and activity, Continue to develop Tapestry’s Audience Development strategy, including CRM data analysis and segmentation, strategies and tactics for building potential audiences and engaging with audience development initiatives in the wider opera and performing arts sector
  • Continue to develop and optimize Tapestry’s Social Media Strategy, including content idea development, copywriting, posting and data analysis on our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube channels 
  • Write and edit all marketing copy, and work with the Manager of Sponsorships and Philanthropy on campaign-specific donor-relations copy
  • Coordinate and manage the creation of all marketing collateral creation timelines, including managing the external Graphic Designer, Web Developer and Videographer, plus work with external suppliers including photographers, illustrators, designers and print houses
  • Manage and track expenses for Tapestry’s annual Marketing budget.

Show campaigns

  • Together with Tapestry staff, achieve budget targets for ticket sales
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and external partners, work on ticket allocations and budgeting within financial targets
  • Identify advertising opportunities and facilitate media buys 
  • Ensure that marketing materials are documented and/or archived as necessary. 
  • Find  cross promotional partnerships for Tapestry events and arrange for reciprocal marketing where possible
  • Coordinate all media bookings, media kits and interview requests, plus Influencer calls and coordination.
  • Write news releases and take the lead on media distribution and follow-up.
  • Be available for Tapestry shows, as required for press  liaison.

Website

  • General website maintenance and upkeep in collaboration with the external Web Developer 
  • Manage Tapestry’s Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads and Hotjar accounts for regular setup and reporting. 

Organizational

  • Take part in strategic meetings with the Tapestry team and contribute towards meeting Tapestry’s broader strategic goals, with a focus on audiences and brand.
  • Occasionally training and managing new starters, including interns
