A proud Newfoundlander, tenor Ryan Downey is quickly gaining nationwide recognition for his “attractive lyric tenor colour” (Edmonton Journal). New opera premieres include singing as Whelan in Abigail Richardson-Schulte’s SHOT (2017), Roberto in the Toronto premiere of Lloyd Burritt’s Miracle Flight 571 (2011), and John in John Estacio’s Ours (2016).

Recent engagements include stepping in last minute to sing the role of the Gingerbread Witch in Hansel and Gretel with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra and singing the roles of Basilio and Curzio in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Windsor Symphony.
