Canada’s fastest growing professional opera company enters its 40th anniversary with new commissions, international partnerships and landmark projects.
Toronto is among the world’s greatest cities, and is home to a rich diversity of cultural offerings. A professional opera company dedicated exclusively to creating and producing new works is a rarity, even among major global cities. We are proud to be based in Toronto, championing the incredible artists and art that is being created here. After all, Tapestry Opera is TO!
This season includes a world premiere exploring the mind of the famous cellist Jacqueline du Pré, the return of two of our most successful works, Iron Road and Rocking Horse Winner, and bold explorations into augmented and mixed reality integrated opera. We are investing in the future with the development of a landmark Canadian opera digital archive and the ongoing development of five new Canadian commissions. New major partnerships include Opera Philadelphia, Luminato, Opéra de Montréal, OCAD U and others, this season and beyond.
It is exciting for any artistic organization to experience this longevity, especially one with a contemporary mandate. With five shows this season and many more in development, we are more vital than ever. As the Globe and Mail recently noted, “Tapestry is busy looking forward; and in time for its big 4-0, it finds itself the leader of the Canadian opera pack.” Be a part of this exciting momentum as we celebrate a unique past, thrilling season, and exciting future.
