Ian Cowie

Toronto-born Ian Cowie is a member of the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra where he has performed over 150 opera productions including eight world premieres and the first Canadian production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle.

Prior to joining the COC, Ian was the principal trombonist of Symphony Nova Scotia and served as a founding board member of the Scotia Festival of Music.

Ian has performed with numerous groups, including New Music Concerts, Esprit Orchestra, Hannaford Street Silver Band, and the Attila Glatz Concert Productions’ Bravissimo and Salute to Vienna. Ian also served as Production Manager and performed in R. Murray Schafer’s Music for Wilderness Lake and Princess of the Stars.

Ian serves as Orchestra Personnel Manager for the Canadian Opera Company and orchestra contractor for many projects at Meridian Hall, Scotiabank Arena, Roy Thomson Hall and Ontario Place.
