Matthew Whitfield

Considered ‘one of Canada’s most gifted musicians’ (Saugeen Times), Matthew Whitfield is an organist, pianist, and conductor who specializes in giving eclectic and exciting performances.

Matthew explores repertoire from all centuries, particularly organ works by Schnittke, Ligeti, Cage, and Glass. He gave the North American premiere of Ted Dawson’s Six Preludes for Organ in August 2015 and Matthew’s recording of Dawson’s ‘Preludes’ and John Cage’s ASLSP2 was released in March 2016.

As a conductor, Matthew has led performances of many choral and instrumental works, including the York University production of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and J.S. Bach’s The Musical Offering.
