Morten Grove Frandsen is Denmark’s preeminent countertenor and a regular guest at the Royal Danish Opera, where he has appeared in Thomas Adès’s The Exterminating Angel, Hans Abrahamsen’s The Snow Queen (world premiere), David Bruce’s Nothing, Mozart’s Mitridate, Louise Alenius’s Manualen (World premiere) and John Frandsen’s The Martyrdom (world premiere).

Recent and upcoming engagements at the Royal Danish Opera include the role of David in Händel’s Saul with Concerto Copenhagen and Lars Ulrik Mortensen.

Morten has appeared in 22 world premieres to date, including Niels Rønsholdt’s critically acclaimed opera Den Sidste Olie (2022) and Louise Alenius’s immersive opera Silent Zone (2027), both for the Copenhagen Opera Festival and Fundal’s Incognito Royal for the Danish National Opera (2021). Morten has also worked with Trondheim Opera, Scottish Opera, The Funen Opera, Aarhus Summer Opera, Klang Festival, Riga Baroque Festival and the République and Black/White Theatres in Copenhagen.

Morten received the prestigious Reumert Nomination for his performance in the solo opera LOL – Laughing Out Lonely, which premiered at SPOR festival in Aarhus (2023) and has since been touring all over Denmark. The showing of LOL at Operadagur in Reykjavik in October 2025 is the start of an international tour that will take the show to North America and Scandinavia.
