Designed for artists and collectives who push the boundaries of opera, Artist Residencies provide essential support for emerging, underrepresented, and innovative voices to develop new works. By offering venue access, mentorship, and production resources, these residencies serve as a launching pad for the next generation of great opera creators.
What the Residency Offers
- Creative Space & Venue Support: Access to the Nancy and Ed Jackman Performance Centre’s rehearsal studios and theatre for artistic development, rehearsals, and performances.
- Mentorship & Artistic Guidance: Direct access to Tapestry Opera’s leadership team for strategic, artistic, and organizational mentorship.
- Marketing & Audience Development: Promotional support, including email and social media campaigns, performance listings, and visibility on Tapestry Opera’s platforms.
- Production & Technical Support: Transparent technical services, including technician staffing, equipment rental guidance, and budgeting assistance.
- Community & Collaboration: Access to workspace and administrative support, members of the Tapestry team, and an environment of openness and collaboration

As an opera collective, Cultureland aims to make new opera more accessible and to build cultural awareness and closeness by offering socially impactful new operatic productions and educational initiatives with a primary focus on equity-deserving Middle Eastern culture and communities..

Quest
Celebrating cultural connections for change
Quest is an operatic experience featuring scenes from Cultureland’s new and developing operas, exploring themes of identity, migration, love, and transformation. It marks Cultureland’s first step on a journey of cultural connection and artistic innovation.
OperaQ

OperaQ is a Toronto-based independent opera company dedicated to amplifying queer and trans voices to offer unique perspectives on traditional narratives. The company is run as a project-based collective, allowing queer artists the autonomy to explore and share their own unique experiences of queerness.

Workshop: La Maupin
OperaQ recently completed a workshop in the ABC Residents Association Studio at Nancy & Ed Jackman Performance Centre for La Maupin, the not-so-tall tale of real-life queer opera singer and swashbuckler Julie d’Aubigny Maupin, retold by the legend herself.
