Tristan Zaba

Performance

Tristan Zaba is a Toronto-based sound technician, producer, composer, and vocalist who is breaking down the boundaries between his practices by continuously pursuing direct communication. In a production capacity, Tristan has frequently assisted contemporary classical musicians and composers in achieving unusual requirements for live shows. These have included amplifying and mixing orchestra-size ensembles, re-encoding live surround sound for virtual delivery over internet live-stream, blending acoustic and amplified sound sources, and troubleshooting live electronics in venues ranging from concert halls to outdoor stages to warehouses to bars, for employers, including Soundstreams, the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, and Tapestry Opera. Tristan is also one of the administrative and artistic heads of the Toronto-based New Music concert series Slow Rise Music and an in-studio production professional who has recorded, mixed, and produced albums for rock bands and classical musicians alike. As a composer, Tristan’s concert music has been performed worldwide, including at Lund Contemporary in Sweden and Source Song Festival in the United States, as well as at Canadian festivals, including Orford Musique and the Winnipeg New Music Fest. He has won honours, including the SOCAN Foundation’s Choral Award for Young Composers, and held residencies with ensembles, including the University of Toronto Guitar Orchestra and the MacMillan Singers.
