Overview
Tapestry Opera’s Micro-Residency Program, hosted at the Nancy & Ed Jackman Performance Centre (NEJPC), offers Toronto artists and creative collectives up to 12 hours of in-kind rehearsal studio access. With a special focus on supporting process-based creation, exploration, and early-stage development, the program provides low-barrier, high-impact access to professional venue spaces.

Program Details & Guidelines
Micro-Residency Guidelines & Expectations
- Maximum Access: Up to 12 total hours per artist or collective.
- Session Length: Bookable in blocks of up to 4 hours.
- Space Responsibility: Residents must respect the space, follow all safety/technical rules, leave the studio clean, and strictly stick to booked hours.
- No Technical Support: Basic space access only (no dedicated technician included).
- No Audience/Promotion: No public promotion or audience-facing events are permitted.
Daily Time Slots
Micro-residencies are booked in 4-hour blocks across three daily periods:
- Morning Block: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Afternoon Block: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
- Evening Block: 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM (Recommended for audio/video recording)
The ABC Residents Association Rehearsal Studio
19’ x 38’ | Maximum Capacity: 60 people
The ABC Residents Association Rehearsal Studio is located within the Nancy & Ed Jackman Performance Centre at 877 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON. Ideal for workshops, music rehearsals, table work, coaching, or meetings.
The space is wheelchair/mobility device accessible via a ramp and also features a fully accessible bathroom and shower. The space features a mirrored wall (which can be hidden behind curtains), an upright piano, and a modest sound system for playback. Folding tables and chairs are also provided.
Rehearsal Studio bookings include access to the Stanley Shalom Zielony Green Room, which features comfortable seating for 5-10 with space for more standing, a kitchenette with sink, microwave, and fridge.
How It Works: 5 Simple Steps
- Apply: Submit a quick application form describing your proposed usage, how many hours you require and date flexibility.
- Get Approved: Approved applicants are invited to book up to 12 hours of in-kind venue bookings at the Nancy and Ed Jackman Performance Centre.
- Damage Deposit: Approved applicants pay a $250 damage deposit by e-transfer or void cheque, returned at the end of the Micro-Residency.
- Request Booking: Review an online calendar showing booking availability at the venue. Request bookings via an online form, confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Create. Receive access details and make the most of your access to creative space in the heart of the city!
Eligibility
Open to professional and emerging professional individual artists and collectives. Priority may be given to projects that align with Tapestry Opera’s core artistic values and community.

Rent Without Applying
To rent the ABCRA Rehearsal Studio without applying for the Micro-Residency Program, rentals start at $80 per 4-hour booking and can be requested by email to Pip Bradford, Director of Facility and Production, at rentals@jackmanperformance.ca.
