Born in Oakville, Ontario, Mac VanDuzer was the recipient of 2 entrance scholarships to the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music and was also recruited as a Linebacker for the UofT Varsity Football team. He swiftly discovered that he could not commit to both playing ball and playing Music with his accustomed level of performance in each… there were too few days in the week.
Mac received his Bachelor of Music in Double Bass Performance in 2018. He went on to do his Masters, with scholarship, at the Manhattan School of Music, where he spent two years studying orchestral double bass with members of the New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera. Mac graduated in the spring of 2020.
Mac played with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada on tours in 2016 (Portugal), 2017 (Cross-Canada for the 150th celebration) and 2019 (Spain). He is currently Principal Bass with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra and has recently played with the Exultate Singers, among other contract positions.
