Kaili Maimets
Performance
Canadian flutist Kaili Maimets is in demand as an orchestral performer, chamber musician, and soloist. She regularly performs with the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada where she was Acting Second Flute and Piccolo from 2017 to 2020. Previously, Kaili was Second Flute & Piccolo with Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and Principal Flute of London Symphonia (formerly Orchestra London). Kaili maintains an active freelance career, performing with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, National Ballet, and Canadian Opera Company.
Together as The Topaz Duo, harpist Angela Schwarzkopf and Kaili released their debut album lumena in March 2022 which was named Best Classical Album of the Week by CBC’s In Concert program, and is in the CBC’s top 22 classical albums of 2022. Kaili’s other memorable chamber performances include the Gryphon Trio’s 30th anniversary concert, a 2019 Southern Ontario tour with cellist Rachel Mercer and Angela Park, and numerous chamber concerts with fellow NACO musicians.
Kaili commissioned and premiered a piccolo and harp concerto by Riho Esko Maimets with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony along with principal harpist, Lori Gemmell in 2023. She also performed Vivaldi’s Piccolo Concerto in C in 2018. She has also been featured as soloist at the NACO Family Adventures concerts in Ottawa, and toured Ontario performing Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto with the Toronto Concert Orchestra.
Kaili’s principal teachers have been Nora Shulman, Denis Bluteau, and Camille Watts. She has a Master of Music in Orchestral Performance from McGill University, a Bachelor of Music from University of Toronto, and A.R.C.T. from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Canada.
