Pierre-André Doucet

Pianiste, écrivain et travailleur culturel, Pierre-André Doucet est une figure de proue de la nouvelle génération d’artistes canadien·nes.

Salué pour « l’émotion de son jeu et son contrôle impeccable » (Audiophilia), il s’est produit dans toutes les provinces du Canada, en Afrique du Sud, aux États-Unis, en Europe, ainsi qu’à bord de plusieurs navires en Asia, en Europe et dans le Pacifique-Sud, en tant qu’artiste de Lincoln Center Stage. Il est lauréat du Concours de piano Knigge et du Concours Eckhardt-Gramatté (avec la soprano Alexandra Smither), et a aussi été récompensé au Prix d’Europe, au Career Development Award Competition du Women’s Musical Club of Toronto, et au Concours de piano international d’Ibiza. Il s’est notamment produit en tournée pour Début Atlantique et Prairie Debut, et a créé ou offert les premières performances d’œuvres de plusieurs compositeur·rices d’exception, dont William Bolcom, Pascal LeBoeuf, Tania León, Nicole Lizée, Jared A. Miller, Jocelyn Morlock et Matthew Ricketts.

Auteur primé de Sorta comme si on était déjà là (2012) et Des dick pics sous les étoiles (2020), tous deux parus chez Prise de parole, il a également publié plusieurs textes dans Ancrages, Impossible Archetypes et Voix plurielles, entre autres. Récemment, il a été finaliste en littérature aux IX^es Jeux de la Francophonie, tenus à Kinshasa, en plus d’assurer la direction artistique d’Une maison traversée, au Festival international de littérature de Montréal.

Pierre-André Doucet détient un doctorat en interprétation du piano de l’Université de Montréal, où il a également été professeur invité. Il a aussi été stagiaire au Franz-Schubert-Institut, à la Music Academy of the West et au Tanglewood Music Center, et en 2022-2023, il faisait partie de la première cohorte de la toute nouvelle Résidence UdeM-McGill en piano-art vocal, dont il assure maintenant la coordination. Au fil des ans, ses projets ont reçu l’appui du Conseil des arts du Nouveau-Brunswick, du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, du Conseil des arts du Canada, et du Conseil de recherches en sciences humaines du Canada.

Pianist, writer and cultural worker Pierre-André Doucet is a leading voice among Canada’s newest generation of artists.

Hailed for “the emotion of his playing and his impeccable control” (Audiophilia), he has performed in every Canada, Europe, South Africa, and the United States, as well as across Asia, Europe and the South Pacific as one of the inaugural Lincoln Center Stage artists aboard Holland America Line ships.  Winner of the Knigge Piano Competition, as well as the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition (with soprano Alexandra Smither), Mr. Doucet has also been a laureate of the Prix d’Europe, the Women’s Musical Club of Toronto Career Development Award Competition, and the Ibiza International Piano Competition. He has notably toured under the auspices of Debut Atlantic and Prairie Debut, and has premiered works by several exceptional composers, such as William Bolcom, Pascal LeBoeuf, Tania León, Nicole Lizée, Jared A. Miller, Jocelyn Morlock and Matthew Ricketts.

He is the award-winning author of Sorta comme si on était déjà là (2012) and Des dick pics sous les étoiles (2020), both published by Prise de parole, and his work has also appeared in Ancrages, Impossible Archetypes and Voix plurielles, among other publications. Recently, he was a finalist in literature at the IX^th Jeux de la Francophonie, held in Kinshasa, in addition to being the artistic director of Une maison traversée, at the Festival international de littérature in Montréal.

Pierre-André Doucet holds a doctoral degree from l’Université de Montréal, where he has also been a visiting professor. Further, he has benefited from masterclasses at the Franz-Schubert-Institut, Music Academy of the West, and the Tanglewood Music Center, and in 2022-2023, he was one of the inaugural fellows of the McGill-UdeM Piano-Vocal Arts Residency, of which he is now the coordinator. Over the years, his projects have received support from the New Brunswick Arts Board, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
