Tim Albery

Performance

Best known for his productions of opera, English director Tim Albery comes from a theatrical family — the son of the impresario Donald Albery and grandson of the producer Sir Bronson Albery. He directed his first operatic production, Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, for a music festival at Batignano, Italy in 1983. From there he has gone on to direct production on the world’s leading opera stages, including English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera, and Bayerische Staatsoper. His staging of Peter Grimes on Aldeburgh Beach in 2013 stands as one of the most remarkable productions in opera history. Canadian audiences know him for his many landmark productions with the Canadian Opera Company, including Götterdämmerung (2006), War and Peace (2008), and Aida (2010).
