Phoebe Tsang
Performance
Phoebe Tsang was born in Hong Kong and grew up in the UK. The author of Contents of a Mermaid’s Purse (Tightrope Books, 2009), her work as a poet, and as a principal violinist for orchestras such as the Ontario Philharmonic, Canadian Sinfonietta, Sinfonia Toronto and the Toronto Philharmonia, has enabled both her artistic practices to inform each other. Her poetry has been published internationally, and commissioned by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. As an opera librettist, she works in collaboration with composer Erik Ross.
Phoebe expresses her love of chamber music through her work with ensembles such as I Furiosi Baroque Ensemble, The WoodChoppers Association and Continuum Contemporary Music. The student and teaching assistant of the late Professor Lorand Fenyves, she developed her love of teaching under his mentorship. Phoebe continues to learn from the example of her students. She holds a BSc in Architecture.
